The South is still in pretty good shape, but we are also comparing even the South with our other shore dives that have amazing underwater features. We started coming to Divi in 2012 with both the North and South part of the reef providing an amazing dive experience, just right off the dock. Since the arrival of the cruise ships, the reef has been decimated by the cruise ships. One continued downside to our visit to Divi was Calabas Reef to the North. They hope to have 10 rooms completed by the end of the year, but we think our Standard Room is where we will continue to be, which overlooked one of the massive pools. The resort is also upgrading the former rooms that we use to stay in with a total renovation. We LOVED our room! The room has been upgraded with a large bathroom/shower, King size bed, patio, etc. We were use to staying in a room with a kitchenette, but with all-inclusive, decided not to this year. I hope she got to compete! This year, for the first time, we stayed in a Standard Room. When we couldn’t find the pharmacy, Joraina even offered to drive us and/or bring us Aleve for the back pain…couldn’t ask for better service than that! She was hoping to participate in a drink-making contest of a drink she made for me (we called it Friday Afternoon), but with a twist. We were excited to see past employees – John, Solanshe and Joraina! Joraina was awesome!! My husband had some back pain after diving and Joraina recommended a health care place for him to go to and helped us find a pharmacy (called Boutiques in Bonaire). He shared pictures of his family, activities he did outside of the resort, and always greeted us warmly…of course, while we were there a main topic of conversation was FIFA Women’s Soccer with the U.S. The bar staff at Pureocean Beach Bar was awesome! We loved getting to know about Elton – he was new to the resort (only 4 months) and yes, his mother named him after Elton John. They provided consistent service and we enjoyed seeing familiar faces. We again enjoyed interacting with Edwin and Benjamin. Upon check-out, we had great service from the Dive Shop & appreciate Serge’s assistance! Remember, this is island life, so don’t expect everything to move as quickly as it would back home! Many of the wait staff toggle between Pureocean and Chibi Chibi. Serge checked out my computer, found out the issue (but one that required sending to the company or getting a new one), so for the first time rented a dive computer the last three days and a pressure gauge. My dive computer died and we still had 3 days of diving. We missed seeing Alvin as he was on vacation the same time we were there. We did all Nitrox shore dives with no boat dives. Some highlights about the staff! We again loved the scuba staff we interacted with. For drinks, amazing selection! There were 6 brands of liquor that were considered “upgrades”, but they had other options instead of those, so if you are picky, make sure to check which of the 6 are considered upgrades for your all-inclusive. The Bonairian food night was interesting we didn’t go back for the 2nd Friday night we were there, but my husband enjoyed the Beef Stew and Goat Stew and it was interesting to try food eaten/served in Bonaire. We loved the Taco and Pasta Nights, but didn’t really like the BBQ night (you also have to keep in mind we live in BBQ country in Kansas City so our taste buds have very high expectations!). For dinner, there were theme nights on Tuesday (Taco Night), Thursday (Pasta Night), Friday (Bonairian Night – new for us!) and Saturday (BBQ chicken and ribs night). Again, consistent food quality/taste in the meals and even the snack options, with plenty of variety to choose from. Always consistent! For lunch, we went to the Bar for lunch and drinks after diving. The breakfast buffet was great – eggs made like you want them, chef specials, bacon/sausage, breads, fresh fruit, etc. For the second year in a row we participated in their “all-inclusive” package, which includes all meals, snacks, and drinks. Two-week trip to Divi This is our 5th trip back to Divi for 2 weeks.
